A yellow-white and russet jade carving of a Buddhist lion, and a white jade carving of a duck

17th/18th century
The recumbent male lion finely carved with its forelegs holding onto a brocade ball, below the raised head, the mouth revealing a row of teeth and sharp fangs, the fine mane parted by the knobbly spine, the thick tail flicked over the left haunch, the stone of yellow-white tone with russet inclusions, 4.5cm (1¾in) wide; the duck carved over a large lotus leaf, holding a lotus sprig in its beak, the wings folded over the sides and carved with feathers and plumage, the stone of grey-white tone with russet inclusions, wood stands. 6cm (2⅜in) wide (4).
