The heavily-potted dish carved on the slightly convex centre with a scaly descending five-clawed dragon amidst cloud scrolls, enclosed by a freely-carved lotus scroll at the cavetto, the underside left undecorated, all below a sea-green glaze stopping at the unglazed ring at the foot, burnt orange in the firing.
34.5cm (13½in) diam.

Compare a slightly larger (42cm diam.) dish in the Percival David Collection, in the British Museum, incised with a very similar five-clawed dragon, illustrated by G.St.G.M.Gompertz, Chinese Celadon Wares, London, 1958, pl.92. Another dish of this large size was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 3 December 2008, lot 2537. A slightly smaller (33.6cm diam.) dish, closer in size to the present example, was sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 30 May 2005, lot 1147.
