A rare large gilt 'mirror-black' vase, tianqiuping

18th/19th century
Of compressed globular form with high shoulders rising to the tall slightly waisted neck and everted rim, supported on a short foot, covered with a lustrous mirror-black glaze thinning to white around the rim and stopping short of the foot ring, with partly lost gilt decoration of a ferocious five-clawed writhing dragon pursuing the flaming pearl amidst cloud and fire scrolls above crested crashing waves, with trilobed lappets and floral sprays below a key-fret border around the rim.
51.cm (20⅛in) high.
