An unusual bronze-style brown-glazed libation ewer

Iron-red Qianlong seal mark
Potted in the taste of Qing archaistic vessels simulating bronze and other media but created at Jingdezhen to amuse the eye of porcelain collectors, in this case gilt on the body in the manner of the Ming bronze worker Huwenming to simulate a late Ming period bronze pouring vessel with an archaistic phoenix pierced handle, the interior glazed turquoise.
13cm (5½in) wide.

Footnotes

The production of libation cups in materials other than rhinoceros horn was particularly popular during the mid-Qing dynasty. Whilst examples are rare, compare a Qianlong mark and period bronze example in this sale, lot 145.
