A pair of blue and white saucer dishes

Kangxi
Each modelled with steep rounded sides rising from a raised, splayed foot, painted with five medallions enclosing pairs of birds amidst segmented florets reserved on a blue ground, all enclosed by a band of scrollwork and lotus blossoms at the rim, the bases with six-character marks reading 'yi you ding yu ya zhi'.
15.2cm (6in) diam. (2).

Footnotes

Compare an almost identical pair of saucer dishes in the Meiyintang Collection, previously in the E.T.Chow Collection, bearing the same rare six-character commendation mark, where two suggestions for its translation are noted: 'Finely made like tripods and jades, for a beneficial friend' and 'Finely made by/for the Halls of the Beneficial Friend and the Tripod and Jade': see R.Krahl, Chinese Ceramics from the Meiyintang Collection, Vol.II, London, 1994, pp.122-123, fig.748.
