A rare cloisonné enamel tripod censer

16th century
The compressed globular body rising to the short slightly tapering neck and flat rim, flanked by a pair of chilong dragon handles, supported on three elephant legs, enamelled on the base with a radiating lotus encircled on the body with a continuous lotus scroll below a ruyi-head border, the neck with S scrolls, all reserved on a turquoise ground.
18.2cm (7⅛in) wide.

Compare two related cloisonné enamel censers with related chilong dragon handles, and one also with similar elephant supports, attributed to the first half 16th century, illustrated by H.Brinker and A.Lutz, Chinese Cloisonne: The Pierre Uldry Collection, New York, 1989, pls.54 and 56.
