Attractively embroidered in shades of grey, sepia and cream on a beige ground with tall land and river scapes, each 130cm x 38cm (51in x 15in); a smaller rectangular embroidery of butterflies and flowers, framed, overall 83cm (33½in) high; and another smaller with eight lion roundels, framed, overall 57cm (22¼in) high.

Footnotes
According to family tradition, the aunt of the present owner's father was a governess to the Emperor's Palace in China and fled at the time of the Boxer Uprising in 1900, bringing back with her these tapestries.
