Tibet, 16th/17th century
The holy man, possibly Marpa, seated in dhyanasana atop a double-lotus pedestal, the hands held in dhyana mudra supporting a kapala, the face set with a meditating expression below the tight curls and flanked by the elongated ears adorned with beaded jewellery, wearing long flowing robes falling in folds around the body and incised at the hems with a foliate lotus scroll, the base incised with a one-line Tibetan script.
53cm (20⅞in) high.
