The body engraved in katakiri and kebori with a continuous scene of the famous Omi-Maiko beach in Harima province; the base signed Nakagawa kyusei Joeki zo; with double tomobako, the inside of the outer lid titled and signed by the artist Nanryo kabin, maiko fukei no hori (Silver vase, engraved with the scenery of Maiko beach), Nakagawa Kyusei Joeki zo with seal Kyudai Joeki. 43cm (17in) high. 舞子風景図銀大花瓶 九代中川浄益 明治時代後期
The Nakagawa line of bronze-casters was one of the great craft dynasties of Kyoto, with a history reaching back to the early 17th century. An artist called Nakagawa Joeki was recorded twice as having exhibited pieces at the Vienna exhibition of 1873, as well as at the second and third Naikoku Kangyo Hakurankai (National Industrial Exposition) in 1881 and 1890.
