An inlaid iron hexagonal facetted cabinet modelled as a shrine

By the Komai Company of Kyoto, Meiji Period
The hexagonal body constructed as a single storey and raised on a stepped hexagonal base, beneath a graduated roof carved with two three-clawed coiled dragons in low relief and surmounted by a stupa bearing a flaming tama-shaped finial, the body fitted with a pair of hinged doors which open to reveal five drawers of various sizes, worked throughout in gold nunomezogan with use of kebori, decorated with famous shrines in rural settings on a ground of floral designs and kiku-mon, the interior of the doors with the takaramono, the edges with fruiting vine, the lower section with another drawer fitted with a lock and decorated with formal and geometric motifs, signed Nihon Koku Kyoto ju Komai sei; with original key and wood storage box. 38cm (15in) high.
