The bowl of squat globular form, applied with flying sparrows in relief and inlaid with bamboo leaves in silver honzogan, the gilt double-ring handles of bamboo form and the large silvered cover in the form of a fukura suzume (stylised sparrow), a section of its back surmounted by a bamboo sprig finial, unsigned; with tomobako titled Ochoji-buro (incense burner for clove) and the inside of the lid inscribed Eisho kotaigo heika on-ibutsu, tokuin (former Collection of the deceased Empress Eisho [1833-1897]). 22.9cm x 22.9cm (9in x 9in).
