The shouldered body of rounded hexagonal form, tapering to an integral circular base, delicately worked in silver and gilt wire of varying gauge with three large scrolled panels, each of a different colour enclosing insects and/or birds among seasonal flowering plants, between bands of auspicious Chinese characters rendered in tensho script, all reserved on a semi-transparent black ground of kiri-mon, ho-o and rain dragons scattered over stylised fern, the neck and foot with interlocking shaped cartouches containing animal motifs alternating with foliate designs, the base stamped with the mark of Gonda Hirosuke; with separate wood stand. 63.5cm (25in) high.
