Constructed in three detachable sections, in the form of a tachidata lantern, raised on a hexagonal stepped pedestal, the body of bulbous, hexagonal and reticulated form with hinged door, surmounted by a pagoda-style kasa (hat) with six upturned corners, worked in gold wire with three aoi-mon of the Tokugawa Clan, alternating with stylised birds, bearing a tama-shaped knop decorated with three yukimochisasa-mon, the lower section entwined with a dragon, the borders decorated with formal flower heads, lappets and other geometric motifs, all reserved on a ground of tight whorl designs; unsigned. 43.5cm (17 1/8in) high.
