Both worked in gilt wire, one vase depicting a Heian nobleman about to enter the gates of a mansion, the other with a woman at the entrance holding a letter, the reverse of both vases decorated with thatched buildings on the shores of a lake, the neck, foot and sides with hexagonal motifs among jagged shapes on a pale-beige ground, both vases signed Hoshi. Both 29.2cm x 28cm (11½in x 11in). (2).
