The design for this vase is perhaps inspired by a large vase by Miyagawa Kozan I, also decorated in high relief with lotus, white herons and kingfishers in the collection of the Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, illustrated by Ito Yoshiaki et al., in the NHK 2004 Exhibition Catalogue, commemorating the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, Arts of the East and West from World Expositions, 1855-1900: Paris, Vienna and Chicago, no.1-171.
