By Kikuchi Godo, Meiji Period
The former standing barefoot, elegantly attired in a formal kimono with her coiffure elaborately styled and dressed with a kushi and ribbon, holding her child in one hand as she strums a shamisen, signed Godo to. 26.7cm (10½in) high.

A noted pupil of Tamura Goshin, the artist is recorded in the Shoto Museum of Art, Exhibition Catalogue, The History of Ivory Carvings, Tokyo, 1996, as being an ivory carver of merit. Other models of bijin by the artist, of comparably high quality and similar finely-executed detail are illustrated, ibid., pl.nos.124 and 125.
