Naturalistically modelled, standing on a rocky base, bearing a quizzical expression with one foreleg slightly raised and both its horns folded over its ears, the base signed Hosei; with tomobako titled Mokucho, Bokuyo (Wood carving, Sheep), and dated and signed on the inside of the lid Taisho hachi-nen tsuchinoto-hitsuji chushu, Toyoken Hosei koku (In the middle of Autumn of Taisho 8 [1919], carved by Toyoken Hosei) with seal Hosei. 28cm x 38.1cm (11in x 15in).
