Attributed to Takaaki, Meiji Period
The body boldly carved in relief with a densely-packed mass of assorted species of birds, including sparrows, geese, cockerels, eagles clutching prey, kingfishers with fish, all the eyes double-inlaid in amber with black pupils, beneath bands of studs, the neck carved with bats among takaramono, the base with added signature Komei within a mother-of-pearl tablet. 37½cm (14¾in) high.

鳥尽し文木彫花瓶 伝たかあき 明治時代
The minute detail is reminiscent of miniature carvings by netsuke artists and is possible that Takaaki was also a netsuke carver, motivated perhaps by the success of metal and enamel artists in creating decorative pieces for the West.
