Meiji Period
Embellished in gold and e-nashiji takamakie, kirigane and hiramakie, the exterior overlaid with three characters reading fude (brush), yo, and sato (hometown) in silver over a continuous landscape possibly of the Yoshino River in a mountainous scene with thatched dwellings set amidst flowering cherry and pine trees, the interior similarly lacquered with a stream meandering past young pine and plum among hillocks, with original fittings comprising: an exquisite silvered and gilt metal suiteki in the form of a sprig of cherry blossoms, an inkstone and ensuite matching knife, brush and skewer in rich nashiji holders with silver fittings, with wood storage box. 26.3cm x 25cm x 4.7cm (9¼in x 9 13/16in x 1¾in).
