An ivory netsuke of a tigress and cub

By Tomotada, Kyoto, late 18th century
The former seated, her head lowered to the right and her tail passing over her right flank as she rests one forepaw protectively on the back of her recumbent offspring, boldly rendered in well patinated ivory, the eye pupils inlaid, signed in a rectangular reserve Tomotada. 4½cm x 5.4cm (1¾in x 2 1/8in).
