A good Chelsea figure of Winter

circa 1756
From a set of the 'Four Rustic Seasons', his yellow skull cap trimmed with fur, his white greatcoat with gilded buttons and parted to reveal an orange waistcoat, standing on a shallow circular base applied with brightly coloured flowers, a cauldron of hot coals held with both hands, 12.9cm high (chip to cape, loss to a few petals)

Footnotes

The same model is recorded in early Longton Hall and West Pans, and in a slightly modified version in the later period at Longton. However, the shallow circular base is a distinctive Chelsea feature. See Peter Bradshaw, 18th Century English Porcelain Figures (1981), pl 38, p 110 for the full set
