A rare Lakin and Poole group of Rinaldo and Armida

circa 1793-95
Rinaldo reclining with arms and legs crossed, gazing up at Armida who tempts him with a green laurel leaf, on a marbled and titled rectangular base, 25.5cm high (some restorations, fine crack to base)

Footnotes

Provenance: Rosalie Wise Sharp Collection, Critchley Collection. Illustrated by Rosalie Wise Sharp, Ceramics, Ethics and Scandal (2002), p 82 where it is suggested that the group was inspired by a contemporary performance of Handel's Rinaldo.
