A pearlware 'American Sailor' Toby jug

circa 1820
Seated on a chest impressed at the side 'DOLLARS', the handle formed by a tree trunk at the rear, a foaming jug in his right hand resting upon his lap and inscribed 'SUCCESS TO OUR WOODEN WALLS' within a heart-shaped panel, a pipe in his left hand, wearing a blue jacket and striped blue trousers, 26.2cm high (some repainting including hat, pipe and feet)

Footnotes

The inscription on the jug refers to British tall-sided battle ships
