A fine pair of Barr, Flight and Barr vases

circa 1808-10
With everted rims, gilded bird's head and ring handles and square plinths, the cylindrical bodies with panels finely painted in bright enamels with flowers against a black ground, reserved on a light turquoise ground within rich gilded neoclassical borders, a band of white 'jewels' around the shoulders, 9.7cm high, script marks referring to Coventry Street address and Royal patronage (one with minute chip to plinth) (2)

Fine quality flower painting of this type, often with bright contrasting enamels and set against a black ground, is occasionally seen in the Flight and Barr and early Barr, Flight and Barr periods
