A fine pair of early Derby figures

circa 1756-60
Seated upon rectangular bases delicately moulded with scrollwork, applied with flowers and picked out in puce, green, pale yellow and gold, each figure with two lambs lying at their side and a basket resting upon their lap with entwined handles, their costumes painted with floral sprays and light colour washes, 24 and 24.5cm high, patch marks (a few minor restorations only) (2)

Footnotes

These figures are only rarely found. See Dennis G Rice, Derby Porcelain (1983) pl 41 for another version of the male figure, slightly later in date. They are not illustrated by Peter Bradshaw, Derby Porcelain Figures (1990), an extensive survey of Derby figure production
