A rare Derby rabbit tureen and cover

circa 1758
The rabbit modelled at lodge, the cover formed from the head and upper part of its body, the ears creating a convenient handle, the coat with salmon pink markings, its eyes picked out in red and black, the irregular base with a pale yellow and green border, 18.5cm long, patch marks (fine cracks, section missing from inner flange of cover) (2)

Footnotes

No other Derby rabbit tureen appears to be recorded in the literature although there are various Derby bird tureens and covers. A much larger and more elaborately modelled rabbit tureen was produced at Chelsea. An example in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, is illustrated by Elizabeth Adams, Chelsea Porcelain, fig 14.3, p 192
