Two Caughley creamboats and an ice cup

circa 1780
One creamboat of low Chelsea ewer form, delicately painted in blue with the 'Convolvulus' pattern, 7.1cm high, painted C mark, the other of 'Gadroon Boat' form, painted in blue with an island landscape, 6.5cm high, impressed star mark inside foot, the rare ice cup of campana form with a scrolled handle, painted in bright blue in French style with the 'Salopian Sprigs' pattern, a double line border below the interior rim, 6.2cm high, painted S mark (restoration to the rim) (3)

Footnotes

The first-mentioned creamboat was exhibited at the Caughley Bicentenary Exhibition, 1972. An unglazed waster of a 'Gadroon Boat' with an impressed star mark is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Caughley and Worcester Porcelains (1969), pl 109 and a similar ice cup is shown at pl 120. Another ice cup was sold in these rooms on 9 September 2009, lot 156
