A very rare Caughley saucer

circa 1785
Painted with three oval panels of 'fancy' birds, edged with gilt scrollwork and reserved on a 'wet' blue ground, three gilded sprigs inbetween and a bug in the centre, 13.4cm diam, S mark

Footnotes

The decoration is very much in the style of the Worcester Duchess of Kent service. Only a small number of pieces of this pattern are recorded. For a similar example, see Caughley Exhibition 1999 catalogue, pl 95
