A rare Worcester sparrow beak jug

circa 1760
With a thinly potted grooved handle, painted in blue with the 'Heron on a Floral Spray' pattern, a wading bird standing on a lotus leaf flanked by trailing flowers, a border with small whorls and florets below the interior rim, 8.8cm high, crescent mark (chips to spout)

Footnotes

The 'Heron on a Floral Spray' pattern is only rarely found, perhaps because the subtle shading on the lotus leaf was so difficult to paint
