A rare Philip Christian jug

circa 1765
The spout delicately moulded with scrollwork and a human mask, the narrow handle with a groove, painted in Mandarin style with three figures, one playing with a dog, the other two standing beside a vase, a red crowsfoot border below the rim, 7.5cm high

Footnotes

The mask is a miniature version of that found on larger jugs such as the one illustrated by Bernard Watney, Liverpool Porcelain (1997), fig 123, p 36
