A Caucasian shashka sword

late 19th century-early 20th century
the slightly curved, steel blade etched with heraldic personal emblem featuring eagle and inscription in Georgian that reads 'Long Live Avalishvili' on one side and engraved inscription in Cyrillic 'Prince Andukapar Avalishvili' and circular shield on the other side; silver hilt decorated with niello and identical rosette shield; leather-covered scabbard with nielloed silver mounts and over-the-shoulder leather belt with silver fittings length of blade: 78cm (30 1/2in).
