the cavetto finely painted with a huntsman with sword charging a wild boar, lower half of the scene framed by ochre neo-Rococo border, rim with green trellis and gilt scrolls with flowers at intervals, with green cypher of Alexander II
diameter: 23.5cm (9 1/4in).

Footnotes

The service was originally commissioned by Empress Catherine the Great for the Oranienbaum hunting palace and was based on the Royal Saxon Hunting Service by the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory. Later additions to the service were made up until the end of the 19th century.
