A lacquered rattan lunch basket

19th Century
Possibly of Okinawan origin, the red-lacquered rectangular body formed by three registers of linked openwork spirals surmounted by a shallow tray with a fitted lid and lined in brightly colored Indian chintz fabric, all supported on a Chinese-style base with a rattan-wrapped bamboo handle applied with metal fittings; together with a uchiwa-style woven rattan fan.
