A square gold lacquer writing box and cover

18th/19th Century
Decorated on a nashiji ground with a flowering cherry tree in a landscape of jagged rocks overhanging a cascading waterfall continuing to the underside with cresting waves lapping at the base of meoto-iwa (wedded rocks) silhouetted by a large silver inlaid moon at the horizon, further waves ornamenting the fitted interior, including an inkstone and suiteki cast and chased as flowering peonies, all executed in gold and silver hiramaki-e, takamaki-e, togidashi and kirigane.
