An ivory two-case inro

19th Century
Carved with a pair of itinerant manzai entertainers reversed by a sake vessel and New Year's decorations, primarily rendered in shizume ukibori with incised and stained details, signed Meikeisai Hojitsu (d.1872) followed by a kakihan; together with an ivory ojime formed by three puppies and an ivory two-part manju carved with an ama (woman pearl diver) fighting off a humorous octopus, the reverse with a cresting wave below the signature Kogyokusai.
