PROVENANCE:
Private collection, Palm Beach, Florida
LITERATURE:
Patricia Janis Broder, Bronzes of the American West, 1974, p. 187-188, pl. 191.
According to Broder's book, "[Fraser] made several models of weary, weather beaten ponies. One called Wind Swept was exhibited in 1916 at the National Academy of Design...These studies showed the stoic despair of the Indian horses relentlessly battered by unmitigating winds. It is clear that the horse in The End of the Trail is based on the one in Wind Swept.
