Footnotes
The reference 5517 was the first official British Military Navy issue watch, issued to the divers of the Royal Navy in 1965. The requirements of the military entailed certain modifications such as a new dial featuring the ‘Circle T’ which is the international symbol for Tritium as well as high visibility hands in a sword shape. Even the case was different from a standard Submariner as the typical spring bars were replaced with solid steel bars welded into the spring bar holes. The case was then polished so the hole was hardly visible. The case backs are engraved on the interior with the serial number and also on the outside case back with the Ministry of Defence issue number.
There are 3 series of the Royal Navy Military Submariner:
1.Standard Ref: 5513
2.Double Ref: 5513/5517 (5513 on case and back: 5517 on a lug)
3.Unique Ref: 5517
