Footnotes

One of the finest examples of Vacheron Constantin workmanship, this timepiece may be one of the only pieces existing of this model. The dial features an enamel cloisonné depicting the mythological twin-tailed mermaid called Mulesine. This beautiful and mythical creature finds her origins in a well-known 15th century French fable. She is a bearer of positive energy as she is the guardian spirit of fresh waters in sacred springs and rivers. The fine detail of this enamel cloisonné scene bears witness to the intricacies of the craft from the elaborate thin gold wire defining the scales of the mermaid’s tail to the subtle tonal graduations of the enamel colours. In contemporary culture, her image can be found in the Starbucks logo.
