Footnotes
The exceptionally detailed moulding on the underside is a feature shared with a smaller example of basically the same pattern from The Watney Collection Part II, sold in these rooms, Phillips, 10 May 2000, lot 540 and again from The Pinewood Collection, 31 October 2001, lot 25. In this version, the house is replaced by a group of buildings including a tower, and the poplar trees by a group of wispy branches. However, a fragment from a sauceboat excavated on the factory site matches the present lot almost exactly.
