Circa 1799-1808.
Painted at Mansfield or Torksey, the ovoid body moulded with a wide band of spiral flutes, the scrolled handle with an upward pointing thumbrest, painted with a fisherman and a dog standing on the shore, watching two boats on the river before them, the reverse with a full flower spray, the monogram 'WP' below the spout and a band of flowers below the black line rim, 22.5cm high (few minute patches of enamel flakes on flower spray touched in)

A John Rose jug of the same shape is illustrated by Geoffrey Godden, Coalport and Coalbrookdale Porcelains, pl 103. Another similar jug, incorrectly attributed to Barr, Flight and Barr and with flowers painted on both sides, is illustrated by W D John, William Billingsley, Illustration 59. Billingsley bought in white porcelain for decoration whilst at both Mansfield and Torksey. The lack of gilding on such a fine piece points to financial troubles at the time of decoration
