A very rare Coalport vase painted by Thomas Pardoe at Bristol

Circa 1815.
Of trumpet shape, painted with a full spray of flowers and buds, a butterfly in flight to one side, the reverse gilded with the monogram 'SEW', 10.2cm high

Footnotes

It is interesting to compare the gilded monogram on this lot with that on the Swansea pottery beaker by Thomas Pardoe, Lot 312 in this sale. The flourishes and graduated dots are clearly by the same hand. Ornamental forms are only rarely found with Pardoe Bristol decoration. A very similar butterfly to that found on this lot is seen on a Pardoe-painted pearlware teapot and cover in the Roland Williams Collection
