Footnotes
The soup tureen from this service is illustrated by Oliver Fairclough, Welsh Ceramics in Context, Part II, p 204. The service was made for the Bevington family with the simplified handle shapes associated with the Bevington period. The stand bears the rare impressed mark 'BEVINGTON AND CO' but a number of plates, including the present lot, bear upper case SWANSEA marks in red, suggesting that the red mark continued into the Bevington period, used concurrently with the Bevington mark. E Morton Nance, The Pottery and Porcelain of Swansea and Nantgarw, plate CLIVB and pp 343 and 129 records only a small number of pieces from the service survive, including eight plates, only four of which are marked
