Painted by Henry Morris with a wicker basket resting on a stone plinth, overflowing with a variety of colourful flowers including a bright red and purple poppy, the plinth hung with a floral garland, a gilded foliate band around the cavetto, an elaborate gilded border inside the rim, 22.3cm diam (some very slight wear only)
Footnotes
This plate bears some strong similarities to the Lysaght service, a substantial portion of which is also attributed to Henry Morris. The plinth and style of floral painting are very similar although the basket on this lot is slightly taller. The rich blue border of the Lysaght service is lacking but the gilded borders inside the rims are virtually identical. The porcelain body and shapes used for the Lysaght service suggest that it was made during the Bevington period but the porcelain body of the present lot suggests an earlier date during the proprietorship of Lewis Weston Dillwyn. Perhaps this lot was a prototype or even the inspiration for the service.
Saleroom notices
There is a very shallow chip to the underside of the rim. This is not visible on the upper surface of the plate
