The painting attributed to John Barker, of oval form with lobed rim and two shell moulded handles, finely painted with shells, including an upturned cowrie and periwinkles amongst colourful seaweed, within an oval panel, upon a richly gilt vermicular ground, a gold band to the rim, 35cm long, impressed and printed marks, referring to Coventry Street address

John Sandon quotes Solomon Cole from his memoirs who told William Chaffers that the artist John Barker excelled in painting shells
