Of New Hall type and 'obconical' form with a loop handle, named and dated to the underside in red enamel 'Athea Pope 1795', painted in the famille rose style with a basket filled with flowers amongst scattered sprigs, below line and dot borders, 11cm high (riveted repair to handle, small chip to the underside of the rim)

Named and dated pieces of porcelain are normally inscribed prominently to the body of the vessel. As this jug is inscribed to the underside, Athea Pope may have been a paintress signing an example of her work, rather than the subject of a commemorative piece
