Of lobed hexagonal form with a fluted rim, painted with scattered sprigs of flowers within a gold dot band and a border of garlands of brightly coloured flowers entwined with a scrolling puce and green ribbon, 25.7cm long (rim crack and small chip, minor wear to the enamels and gilding)
Footnotes
The painting and palette of this dessert dish can be compared with decoration attributed to Fidelle Duvivier. Painted by skilled hand, the delicate flower garlands and ribbon are much finer than those found on New Hall set patterns. Small trails of puce foliage issue from the flowers, a stylistic device that can be seen on many pieces attributed to his hand, see the important punch pot and cover, sold in these rooms 23 April 2008, lot 284. For two examples of the shape, one from a service decorated by Duvivier, the other with a similar floral design, see Geoffrey Godden, New Hall Porcelains (2004), pp 168 and 263, pls 65 and 205
