A London delft pill jar

Circa 1740-60.
Of cylindrical form, inscribed 'P:COCHIAE' within a strapwork cartouche surmounted by a shell flanked by two winged putti, an angel head below, 9cm high (some fine cracks and patches of glaze loss)

The jar would have held 'Cocciae, pilulae' a purgative containing aloes, scammony and colocynth. Two similar examples from the John Philip Kassebaum Collection were sold at Sotheby's, 7 October 1992, lots 69 and 70
