A 25-Bore Silver-Mounted Flintlock Turn-Off Pistol

With three-stage cannon barrel numbered '2' at the breech, shaped foliate engraved tang, border engraved action (cock associated), the breech engraved with a band of foliage at the rear, signed below the steel-spring and numbered '2', and engraved 'London' on the upper side, moulded figured butt (repaired) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising trophy of arms side-plate, vacant foliate escutcheon with a scallop shell above, and engraved spurred pommel with human mask cap within a border of shells and scrolls, and iron trigger-guard engraved with a flower-head on the bow (some rust patination overall), London proof marks

James 1 Barbar was apprenticed to his father Lewis in 1714, was free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1722, and elected Master in 1742. He was appointed Gentleman Armourer to King George II in 1741 and died in 1773
