With three-stage cannon barrel (minor surface rust) engraved with three graduated spheres between scrolling foliage on the breech, foliate scroll engraved tang secured by a screw and with trefoil-shaped finial over the breech, border engraved action (cock replaced) signed beneath the steel spring, trigger-guard also forming the turned rear ramrod-pipe, swelling figured rounded butt (repaired on one side) carved with foliage behind the barrel tang, border engraved pierced silver side-plate, cast and chased silver escutcheon engraved with owner's crest, later silver pommel with foliate engraved borders, and later iron-capped ramrod, London proof marks and maker's mark

Henry Delany, a Huguenot immigrant gunmaker, was admitted freeman of the London Gunmakers' Company in 1715. He worked in Long Acre, Holborn and is recorded as a 'Master of the breechloading sporting guns and silver-mounted pistols'. He died in 1745. For further information see J.F.
