With brass barrel slightly flared at the muzzle and engraved 'Cornhill London' within a tear-drop shaped panel along the breech flat, grooved engraved tang, signed border engraved rounded lock (jaw screw and steel replaced), figured moulded full stock (fore-end with minor repairs) carved with a shell behind the barrel tang, cast and chased mounts comprising pierced trophy of arms side-plate (partly replaced), vacant escutcheon en suite, spurred pommel with grotesque mask cap within a border of scrolls, trigger-guard with early form of acorn finial and engraved with a flower-head on the bow, tuned ramrod-pipes, and later brass-tipped ramrod, London proof marks and maker's mark

Joseph Heylin was made free of the Gunmakers' Company in 1757, and was Master in 1777. He is recorded as gunmaker and stone-bow maker at 48 Cornhill between 1757 and 1779. He died in 1801
